Carrick Two-Day Announced

You often hear the phrase ‘If you don’t ask, you don’t get’, well that is just the case with the Carrick Club’s latest announcement regarding their Two Day Motocross status in 2012.

The turn of the New Year saw MRA clubs announce their line-up of dates and events ahead of the new season, but much to the surprise of many, the popular CDMCC Two Day Motocross was missing from the calendar. Those who were around the club during last year would have seen particularly stressful times for its working core members. Promoting four different disciplines of off road motorcycling in a six month spell including seven grasstracks, two supercross, a two day motocross at a new venue and a cross country certainly took its toll on the volunteers within the club, most of which help with the club on top of a full-time working week!

Further to this, at the close of the 2011 season the club voted to scrap the Two Day Motocross for 2012 while they concentrated efforts on other events and finding a new venue in the local area, but always with the view to the two day returning in 2013, just hopefully at a local circuit. When news filtered out through CDMCC’s official website, carrickfergusmcc.co.uk, the club was soon hit with a substantial number of disappointed folk, asking why the event was excluded from this year’s calendar, so the Carrick Club brought the enquiry’s to the January Club Meeting for discussion.

A week after the meeting, C&DMCC were able to release the following statement:

“There was much discussion at our January Club Meeting regarding the exclusion of a Two Day Motocross event from our calendar, so after being inundated with enquiries from the motocross community this has led us to reconsidering the status of the event for the upcoming season.

We are now excited to announce that the CDMCC Two Day Motocross will indeed be back in 2012, the third consecutive year of the event, to be run on Friday 24^th August and Saturday 25^th August. Things have moved on quickly from the meeting and we are now in the position to also announce that we will be returning to, one of the UK’s premier motocross venues, Porter’s Pit, Desertmartin to stage this event.

We worked with the team at the Cookstown Club in 2010 and were extremely impressed with the professionalism of their track management of Desertmartin, one of the big factors in us returning. It takes away a lot of the hassle of building and preparing a track ourselves but you also know the venue and circuit will be prepared to the highest of standards which will keep competitors, spectators and us happy.

With our Two Day workloads being substantially lower we can now continue with our objective behind the scenes, to find a new motocross venue within the local area, while also keeping our members happy by promoting a Two Day Motocross event at Desertmartin.

Over the next few weeks we hope to release further details on this event along with details of our first event on the calendar, a cross country which will hopefully be at venue nearby Carrickfergus.
