Suitor Brothers Watt KTM Teamsters were back in action over the Easter Weekend at Desertmartin for the Ulster Motocross Championship, writes Malcolm Beattie.
In the Norman Watt Motorcycles Premier MX1 Class, defending Champion, Richard Bird from Lisburn had a good day at the challenging GP circuit. Finishing with two thirds and a fourth on the day to leave him third in the Championship on the day, Richard performed well on a tough day for all competitors, but felt he could have had better results, but with him on the 350cc KTM, the heavy track maybe suited the 450’s of his opposition, but overall, a good start to the Championship defence.
His teammate in the Premier Class, Larne’s Niall McAuley, finished with excellent results of 10th, 11th and 14th in the three races. MX2 rider Drew Gowdy from Carrickfergus, fell in practice and injured his shoulder, putting him out of action for the day.
In the Semi Expert Class, Mark Patterson from Crossgar, back on his familiar 250f machine, finished 6th & 8th, but problems meant he finished well down the field in race one.
In the Clubman’s MX2 class, Crossgar teenager Steven Gill had a good day, finishing 7th, 2nd and 13th to figure in the top ten of the Championship.
Best wishes go to Drew for a speedy recovery, and the team now move on to round 2 of the Retink Irish Championships at Doon, Athlone on Sunday 15th April.
