GLENN McCORMICK JOINT 3RD IN RETINK IRISH MX2 CHAMPIONSHIP
Sunday 15TH April was Round 2 of the Retink Irish Motocross Championships at
Doon, near Athlone.
Qualifying went well for the Co Antrim teenager, this being his first visit to this fast open track and good sunny but cold weather meant very fast qualifying speeds Glenn qualified 21st in the combined MX1 & MX2 Premier Class.
Moto 1 – Glenn got a mid pack start again and started picking off riders to finish 5th, just losing out in a good battle in closing stages for 4th.
Moto 2 – A much better start this time to run 3rd for much of the race only to lose out in the final laps after another good battle to finish 4th.
Moto 3- A bad start left Glenn with a lot to do, coming through the pack he got his front wheel taken out by anther rider and went down on lap 2. Picking himself up and charging through the field with bars bent, he managed to recover to a well deserved 6th place at the flag.
This was another good day for the 16 year old on his Watt Motorcycles/Agnew Recovery Kawasaki, to be joint 3rd in championship after 2 rounds is great confidence boost.
Glenn said ‘I really enjoyed today, learning new tracks is fun and I felt my pace was good. I had James Ambrose and Clarence Bell from PLR set my suspension up before this weekend and I really noticed the difference. I now really feel I can up my speed and push on for better results.’
Considering the entry included regular British Championship runners, Stuart Edmonds and Graeme Irwin, a Maxxis Race winner, Glenn’s performance is all the more praiseworthy, and there is more to come from the Glenoe teen as he spends more time on the new four stroke machine.
