Last Saturday, team TMC MOTOX’s John Meara went to Tinkerhill track for round 3 of the Ulster championship with one thing on his mind and the goal was to try take the lead in the premier mx2.
With a combination of governing factors, mainly hard, fast riding, the 17 year old Loughbrickland Honda rider left the track that evening with “Mission accomplished”
Practice seemed to go quiet well for him and it didn’t take him long to familiarise himself with the well watered track. He emerged 4th overall and fastest mx2 bike.
In race 1 he got caught up in another rider off the start gates and threw him almost last around the first corner but he played a great game of “catch-up” and slotted himself nicely in to 2nd at the flag.
Race 2 John got a mid-pack start and struggled a bit (as did everyone) on the freshly watered track but carved his way up through the field to take the win.
Race 3 went very well from start to finish and had an epic battle with JAR Honda’s Michael McCammond, but managed to hold him off to take another win.
These results gave him the overall win behind Wexford’s Jim O Neill (2nd) and Glenoe’s Glenn McCormick (3rd)
JOHN: “The day went very well for me and I done what I set out to do, I went from being 41 points behind at the start of the day to 5 points ahead at the end of the day.
