Triple Delight For Garrett In Dundalk

Honda’s Wayne Garrett secures a hat-trick of wins at round four of the Retink Irish Motocross Championship at Dundalk Moto Parc while Honda mounted John Meara leads the way in MX2…

The fourth round of the Retink Irish Motocross Championships took place at Dundalk Motocross Park last Sunday. Ireland’s top motocross athletes came from all over the country to race for top honours. Luckily the weather picked up for the event and the track turned out some excellent non-stop race action.

Premier MX1
Wayne Garrett on board the JAR Honda took the top step of the podium in the Premier MX1 Class and stretched his lead in the Retink Irish Championships. Wayne is back up to speed taking 3 wins and continuing to improve after a leg injury at the end of last year. Which was hard to tell by his performance.

Richard Bird riding the Watt/Suitor Bros KTM took 2nd. Fighting his way back into the championship with 3 consistent motos taking 2nd places on the day and jumps form 5th to share 3rd in the championship standings with VMX KTM rider Michael mahon.
3rd spot was Gary Gibson who was lighting fast all day leading 2 motos but a few crashes held the number 4 Tyco Tas Suzuki pilot back on the day. Garys lying 2nd in the championship. Unfortunately a mid week practice crash forced local rider Ryan Callaghan to the side lines for the event but should be back on track in the next few weeks.

Premier MX2
TMCMotoX Honda`s John Meara continues to lead the MX2 championship and took the over win on the day with a 1st and two second place finishes. John was lucky to stay on top after a big get off in the wave section of the track in moto 2.

Glenn McCormick Watt Kawasaki had a great day, His best round yet with two 3rds and a win in the last moto. Glenn sits 2nd in the championship.
JAR Honda`s Michael McCammond had a tough day and salvaged 3rd place over all. In moto 1 Micheal`s chain derailed off the Honda witch he was able to put back on and charged back through the pack to 7th in moto 1. A race win in moto 2 and after a great start in the 3rd moto michael dropped to 8th place with some bike problems to finish 3rd over all. We also caught up with JSM Suzuki rider Sean Kelly who is fighting his way back from a serious knee injury which has left him out of action for 2012 Motocross season. Sean hopes to make a comeback to Motocross 2013 as he makes great progress in his recovery.

Semi expert BMX1
In the semi expert BMX1 class Donal Teague had a consistent day with a 2nd and two wins on the day. He now controls the lead in the BMX1 championship.
Darren Bradford riding the Motoshox/Fabrite Kawasaki finished the day 2nd on the day and hold 2nd in the over all championship chasing Teague.
Finishing out the top 3 in BMX1 was Chris Lynd who was happy to close the gap in the points and now ties Clifford wilson for 3rd in the Championship standings.
Local rider Francis Nuggent came home in 10th over all and was delighted to break into the top ten in stacked championship class.

Semi expert BMX2
Stuart Fee secured both 1st place over all on the day and also in the BMX2 Retink Irish championship series. Luke Smith followed him home to take 2nd over all and Ian Jones 3rd. Local riders Gary and Paul Marmion had a tough day in the highly competitive BMX2 class. Finishing 15th and 18th over all on the day.

CMX1
Scott Leaney took the honors in CMX1 class followed by Paul Atkinson in 2nd and Gareth Mulligan in 3rd. Which tightens the CMX1 championship down at the half way mark and leave it all to fight for. Local man James Callaghan finish 10th over all. The Retink racing Kawasaki pilot has stepped up a class for 2012 and James is getting to grips with the new 450 in the CMX1 class.

CMX2
Andre blakley took a clean sweep on the day winning all 3 motos on board the NBR Yamaha. Dale Adams chased him home for 2nd over all with Keith Redmond taking 3rd spot.
