Last Sunday saw the last round of the Maxxis British Championship been staged in Little Silver, Exeter.
VMX KTM,s Michael Mahon was on a high as it was his last championship race of the season and vowed to go out on a “high”. Michael was debuting the new 2013 KTM
Fuel injested 4 speed 450. It was going to take a bit of getting used but no better man for the job.
RACE 1 he got a great start and was running in 10th for the first few laps and then a stall in a corner lost him two places he got stuck behind a rider that was holding him up and he couldn’t get around him for love or money and started getting frustrated and over riding the track which led to him stalling it yet again, he caught back up on him again and in sheer frustration, dropped it in a corner trying to go around him, he ended up in 21st and very frustrated as his lap times where quick enough to be top 14.
RACE 2 after such a bad first race he knew he needed to get a good result if he was to make it into the last race which was the “super final” 30min +2laps moto, so he got a good start and was running 14th for the whole race and stalled it on the last lap and lost two places to finish 16th.
RACE 3 (as Michael said “YIPEE I made it“) He made it in just by the skin of his teeth and had 40th gate pick the very last gate on the right and it was a hair pin left turn ,so he knew he would need a good jump which he got and rounded the first corner 6th after a bit of bar banging he was sitting 10th mx1 and 15th overall, with 6mins left he binned it bigtime again and got tangled up with another rider which resulted in a dnf.
Michael Mahon 21—-16—-DNF
“I had an up and down day today but I am happy with my speed and my starts. I just made a lot of silly mistakes, i had only just ran in the new bike on Wednesday and rode it properly for the first time in practice Sunday morning so I wasn’t really used to the fuel injection and the 4 speed gear box, but i really enjoyed riding it, it corners amazingly and the power was really helping me with my starts its an amazing bike big thanks to Graeme for getting me on it for the last round. I am already looking forward to 2013 so its onwards and upwards”
