The announcement has been a long time coming but we can now reveal the Carrickfergus & District Motorcycle Club’s November Cross Country event will take place at Tinker Hill, Newry on Saturday 24th November.
The event will take on a fresh format from the norm, introducing for the first time a ‘Team Sprint Enduro’ thought up by outgoing vice chairman, Peter Denney. The new format has been brought in to attract not just the cross country regulars but also to encourage more motocross folk to come along and try this form of off road racing.
Teams made up of one or two competitors will compete throughout the day in three styles of event around the lap built around and through the infamous Tinker Hill MX Track.
Event #1 – Time Trial – 6 laps
In a two man team, each rider will complete three timed laps around a short XC track. The times will then be added together and positions given to each team in respect to their combined time.
Events #2 & #3 – Sprint Races – 45 minutes each
The first rider from the team will compete in the first of the 45 minute sprint races from a dead engine start while the second rider will compete in the second 45 minute sprint race. Positions will again be awarded but in this case, each sprint race will carry its own points to contribute to the teams overall tally.
Event #4 – Team Race – 90 minutes
A 90 minute team race will be the final chance for teams to climb up the leaderboard as teammates will alternate on track in this endurance race to complete the days racing. The team that completes the most laps in the quickest time will take victory the final race.
Throughout the day, points will be awarded relative to the team’s position in each of the four events, similar to the Motocross of Nations scoring system ,(e.g. first place will get one point, second will get two points etc.) meaning the team with the least points overall after the endurance race result will take home the winning trophy. Expert and Clubman teams will be scored separately and trophies for the top 3 in each class will be presented after racing. A trophy for the top ‘Ironman’ will also be awarded for the top rider who takes on the tough task of racing the event without a teammate!
If you like the sound of this unique team event then grab yourself an entry form from the club website www.carrickfergusmcc.co.uk or from your local mx/xc dealer and get it in the post to Charlie asap and guarantee your entry.
The entry fee is priced at just £55 per team and one transponder will be required per team to accommodate the electronic timing system. Transponders will be available to hire for £10 each if needed and entries will close on Wednesday 21st November, don’t hang about!
