Sunday 19th : 2014 Merzouga Rally – THE PROLOGUE

It’s not all go go and full steam ahead at any Rallye. With the prologue starting at 1600 and the bikes In Parc Ferme there was some time to relax this morning. Brian,Vincent and Barry Horsebox Shea relaxed at the hotel in hot and beautiful weather. No tent in the desert this time but a 5 star
African hotel.

As is normal most riders are drawn towards the Parc Ferme. To see what the other guy is riding and what they have fitted to their steed. There are many varied options on every brand and every season there seems to appear more and more sophisticated navigation aids. More buttons to press  more screens to look at where money seems no object  or restriction . Ifs it’s available buy it and fit it .
What took the fancy of Enduro.ie …….the speed brain . It’s small light and relatively simple . The downside it costs 50000 plus ! sponsors needed.

After the morning rest came the prologue to decide the starting order for tomorrow . Brian and Vincent went through without any hitches and we await the results.

Of the top guys.  Arnold Brucy (son of the Dakar legend Jean Brucy), Pal Anders Ullevaalsetter and Johnny Aubert looked fast but will play the game in the shoot out. No one wants to start first as the track will be barren.Tactics can play a big part when the riders are if similar speed.
Us mere mortals have no concern on that score.

07:00 start tomorrow for what will be a long day for the pro-class and 25 % less for the experts.

We wish our guys well for what will be a very different experience .
Who might win …. Well our money is on Norwegian Ullevaalsetter. No snow here but our roving reporter has seen him in action before. A very experienced dog for the hard road.
