Tuesday – Stage 2 at Merzouga Rallye 2014

The first rule of any team rider is you have to beat your team mate.
The two children are arguing the toss of who did what and when. Vincent started after Brian and finished in front. Brian maintains he stopped and waited for Vincent who then played follow the leader for 150km zooming past with 5 km to go. Good friendly banter which will possibly go on all night. Cork v Fermanagh… Not sure what the stats are on that one.

Brian’s dad has been on the phone and asked what the f …
Is Brian doing !

So day 2 over and both safely in the Merzouga Parc Ferme after a slow start but a good run through the last two checks. Happy boys ! Well done to them.
Today is a marathon stage so no assistance allowed tonight. So far the bikes are OK.
Tomorrow it’s the first visit to the dunes and a change of terrain from rocky to softer with many chotts ( dry lakes which can be soft ). 208 km for the experts which will test their resolve.
So far Enduro .ie money is safe as per Pal Anders Ullevaalsetter is ahead in the Pro Rallye class as we await full results.

Safety is an ever present issue on any rallye. Every bike carries a live sentinel satellite GPS giving current location. Any time the rider stops for more than 30 seconds the race control sends a signal to see if the rider is OK. A simple press of the green button affirmed the position . Red code or no code sends out Marshall’s or medical.

Two helicopters  4 ambulances and 4 bike doctors are ever present. We hope none are needed.

We all had a chuckle last evening after the briefing. Brian came back and told us ( in his best Fermanagh accent) that they needed to take spare air  filters to fit after the fish in the river .? Much scratching of heads when we finally worked out Edo meant fesh fesh ( very soft powder) not fish fish!

See what tomorrow brings.
