What a day !
After yesterday’s fantastic results ( Brian 14th Vincent 21st) by CP2 today it looked like those results were going to bettered . Brian ran Into CP2 ahead of almost all his class riders and looked to be leading on the road ( dunes). Vincent had gone through CP1 well up the order and the Paddys were looking good. Green shirts on tonight !
Brian was a bit pissed, missing a waypoint and thinking to go back . That was decided against . He carried on but forgot to cancel the missed WP and the GPS being non intelligent would not clear the point and Brian’s navigation
Suffered to CP3 and finish losing a considerable amount of time.
Vincent’s fate was to be worse. He missed the same WP and went round and round looking for it ( decision as we said yesterday) but failed. Re routing to the control he was to run out of fuel 3 km from the check and lost hours. This in turn left Vincent very late on the course when he eventually got fuel and running again. He reached the final PC. Great work.
Now to answer the question. The way point – In question was not there in the first place. It was a mistake. The organisers are currently deciding what to do and it is likely the time lost will be given back. What happens to Vincent who ran out of fuel because of it and then was late ? We will have to see.
