Beautiful weather, excellent terrain well laid out by Hughie O Sullivan and his crew ( thanks to Paul Mc Carthy who knows this forest like the back of his hand) and a fast open test all added up to a great days racing for the 3RD round of the Irish , Southern centre and TORC championships at Kilworth forest last Sunday.
The weather makes any event but that does not mean easy and a full 5 ½ hour day was tackled by the Experts, seniors with 4 H for the Clubmen and 3 ½ for the Sportsmen. A long hot day on a course that offers little in terms of rest, roots, ruts, uphill and what goes up must come down and fast twisty fire roads. There were a few tired bodies for sure, tired but happy with the run except for a few who lost their way on the first lap missing the test end and the following check. It seems they went wrong during the run through the test …. Disappointing for them.
Final results are not to hand but it seems Dave MC Nulty( BETA) recorded his third victory of the season following a poor first test with two good ones to claim a deserved win ( provisional) from Richie Leonard ( 125 HVA) , with three consistent tests and the evergreen Harold Crawford ( GG) continuing to show a clean pair of boots to many a younger rider.
Paul Walsh (350 KTM) again claimed the Senior prize followed once more by Dave Darcy (250 TM) and Willie Thompson (450 KTM). Dave and William both had one bad test in the three. More consistency would pay dividends.
Michael Tobin ( 125 KTM ) put in two clubman times fast enough to be near the top of the Senior class, followed home by Paul Connelly ( CR ) and Barry Kennedy ( HVA), the latter showing a turn of speed in the final test but with a slow ( ish) first run.
Jason Falvey (144TM) rocked on to the Sportsman win following a long absence from the sport. Connor Davis filled the second spot with Paul O‘Brien (TM) 3rd. A long days riding for those guys compared to normal.
So well done to all, riders, organisers, followers and the weather man.
