Hemsley BEC is held outside the town of Hemsley in N Yorkshire an area steeped in a trials tradition and home to the Lampkin family and many other trials champions. The terrain is forest but runs between steep valleys so naturally contains climbs and decants, steep ones on off camber rooted floor. It is wet all year but particularly so in winter so given the rain and snow over the past weeks it made for very trying conditions . It rained right up to the 10 am start time on Saturday when thankfully what sun there was came out.
Saturday was scheduled for 4 laps Championship / Experts 3 for Clubmen + . The 4 was cut to 2 when the route became impassable for the clubmen who delayed the other classes . Clubmen were cut to 1.5 laps. The tests were reduced from 6 to 3 when the extreme test was deemed dangerous. It was technical but not dangerous.
Sunday for those who survived Saturday ran to a shortened route , 6 tests and 3 laps.
Clutches were fried, engines boiled out.
Here we should welcome the fact that most of our events run on ground that has a firm base underneath and is unlikely to cut into the ruts that happened in Yorkshire …. What we have is generally good ground and it should be respected.
