What a day ….
We had it all today …. Fuel stations with no fuel so we ran out , a lightning storm which knocked out guide Doug off his bike and shocked the rest through the bars , a 10 hour riding day (!) and lost in the forest when even Doug had no idea where we were .
Doug is Scottish , sometimes under the radar.
But he was brought up sucking the tit of hard Enduros having laid out the Melville Enduro probably the hardest BECĀ event ever . He also laid out the Romaniacs and the Brazilian Red Bull extreme.
He is no mean rider for an oldie .
What that all means is it might be a trail riding weekend but a leopard never loses the spots and if Doug thinks the crew can ride a bit it will not be a cakewalk . Far from it . When is the last time you ride for 10 hours with only one stop on steep and wet terrain ? Guessed it …. Never .
Of course we should have copped the position when we first looked at the bikes . Well prepared yes ( although more then 3 mm thread would have been good) with quality protection , hand guards , sump guards , rad , disc and exhaust yards and ….
Pull cords front and back . Wasn’t long before we understood why …. 60% drops not for the faint hearted ….
We have all done well … A few crashes and tired bodies but we stuck to the task . Stunning views .
Time for food and beer .
Tomorrow …..
