Fastlane MCC held round 2 of their successful series at Brittas on last Sunday week . Immediately on its completion it was off to Donegal to join the “oldies” on the Donegal trail run ; another very good event … many bog roads , train tracks , water and beer . Then the real oldies with the 50 th anniversary run of the Vets and Vintage pilgrimage around Wicklow on a very hot sunny day . 100 miles on bikes from the 1920 to the 1970 … some beautiful prepared bikes all a credit to their owners .
The main event was Brittas where the club once again were fortunate to use Michael Quinn’s land and quarry . Modified from last year with some added loops and some removed it seemed to prove popular with the riders and some additional work with the Dozer helped the lap flow . A good entry was once again headed by MX riders Edmonds , this time joined by Steven Mullaly and Jim O’Neill the latter two having a 3 race long bar bashing session . Good to watch and well done to them for putting on such a good show . Edmonds ran out the overall winner but only just after upending himself in the last race at the top of the field . O’Neill won that last race and shared 2nd in the rest with Mullaly . Tight stuff .
The Seniors was equally tight after Steven Tracey who was gone . Behind a group battle ensued between Jinks , Tobin , Murphy , Girvan and behind McHugh , Maher and Craigie with a string between them all . Good stuff again.
Ben Braithwaite once again swooped the trails bike to win the Clubman from Fran Murphy and Devlin where Sam Cullen cleaned the Sportsman from Dinny Collins and Andrew Lohan . All close racing .
The youth was no different with race long competition all the way through ….. eventually SIMON CATWRIGHT won the 85 ,AARON LAPPIN The 125/250 class …
COC Nick was pleased with the day:
“ yep , we are pleased with the good turnout and thanks for all for coming . We did a deal of work to the venue ( thank to Jimmy Jones) which improved the lap and it all worked out well . The weather was good to us so thanks to our landowners , Jimmy , Ambulance crew and the timekeepers . Unfortunately we had to stop race 2 due to an accident so the timekeepers had a bit of sorting to do as riders passed during the stop period . We think we have it almost correct . “
Round 3 of the Fastlane series will be held at Doon on the 27th August – Moato Circus 2 day Charity Biking Event !!! More info soon!!!
