Round 2 of the MRA Ulster Quadcross/Under 21/Veterans/Sidecarcross Championships take place this coming Saturday, 28th April at the scenic Tinker Hill Circuit just off the A1 north of Newry, promoted by QRI.
The first round of the series was shortened to two moto’s due to serious incidents at Desertmartin, so QRI will be hoping to complete all three moto’s per class on Saturday.
The Ballymac Hotel Under 21 class produces the best racing in the country at the moment, with all the young stars out in force, including local man, Loughbricklands John Meara, Glenoes Glenn McCormick, , Larne’s Michael McCammond, Tyrone’s, Steven Smyth, and giant killer Dromara schoolboy Stuart Fee on his little 125cc two stroke. This class was oversubscribed at Desertmartin, and should provide the highlight of the two wheeled programme on the day.
The Quad Premier Class always produces close and exciting races, and with names like Lisburns David Wray, locals Mayobridge man Sean Goss, Markethills Gareth McClean, and fliers like David Cowan, and the hopefully recovered, Michael McAnenny from Limavady, along with young chargers Saintfields Dean Colhoun, and Magheralins Alexander Thompson, along with Newry’s fastest lady Emma McQuaid, fresh from her win at Tandragee last week, expect close racing all day.
The Clubmans Quad class is led by Norman Bell at the moment, with a host of young chargers hot on his tail, such as Lisburn’s David Forsythe and others; this will provide an appropriate support to the big stars of the 4 wheel game.
Turning to the three wheel stars, Neil Campbell and Ross Graham have started this year where they left off last year, unbeaten so far, despite a close race with Lisburn neighbours 16 year olds, Gary Moulds and Shane Taylor in the Sidecarcross class.
Hugh Evans an Ian Harrow, runners up at Tandragee, along with James Earney & Gary Bell, with Tony Willis & Ian Glenn, all Lisburn based will provide the chasing pack behind the youngsters in this class of youth versus experience.
Turning to the experienced solos, in terms of the Veterans, this class has been dominated by local man Cliffy Bailey from Loughbrickland, with Waringstowns Jonathan Fairley, Ravarnet man Ricky Watt, and Ian Moore from Cookstown so far, with close racing through the pack as all three grades run concurrently.
Racing will start around 11.00 am at the picturesque, atmospheric Newry circuit, signposted from the main Belfast Newry A1 road just north of the city, entry is £5.00 per adult, with under 14’s free, a great family day out for all.
