VMX’s Michael Mahon delivers his best performance of the season to finish second overall at round five of the Retink Adult Irish Motocross Championship…
Fresh from his big smash last week in Donemana, VMX’s Michael Mahon (KTM) was back larger than life in Seaforde motocross Park for round 5 of the Retink Racing Adult Irish Championship.
Michael, who was badly concussed after his big spill when he caught a kicker on a table top as he lead race 3 of the Ulster Championship on the previous Saturday, quickly got down to business on the hillside track.
In the 1st race he got an ok start and he came trough into 2nd quickly and tried putting in a few quick laps to catch Tommy Merton but couldn’t make it happen and finished 2nd.
He holeshot race two and lead for a few laps but rode a bit to defensive and Gary Gibson and Merton got passed. Then it was time to settle in and held on to 3rd.
With another holeshot from race 3 under his belt, Mahon lead for the whole race only to be passed with 2 corners to go as Merton dived down the inside of him and to take the win leaving Michael a very close 2nd.
With Tommy Merton won the Tommy Stewart Memorial trophy for the 2nd time, Michael was 2nd overall with Wayne Garrett cruising to 3rd.
Michael gained a lot of valuable points and cemented himself well in 3rd place in the championship.
Michael 2—3—2
“I had a very good day today and would have loved to have grabbed my first MX1 Irish win, but it wasn’t to be. I learned a lot today and look forward to the next round in Seaforde.
“I would just like to say a big thanks to everyone that was screaming over the fences for me to win that last race as it meant a lot to me.”
