The women’s Enduro world championship had been hotting up with the battle between the UK’s Jane Daniels and Spain’s Laia Sanz. Laia won today to close the gap on the championship . The ladies ride two laps of a shortened route and that was a good thing today as the ‘going’ was hard . Huge climbs and drops and a real old school Enduro test … Ruts , roots and climbs . It has not been an easy year and many lost time or dropped out . There was a shake up at the top as well … Watson won E 1 ,Monni a first win in E3 and Bellino back on E2 and overall . The classes are tightening .
The introduction of the Enduro GP championship for 2016 has been a qualified success acknowledging the overall winner , mixing the schedule whilst keeping the interest in the classes . It is ok .
For 2017 the plan is to move to a 2 championship format … Enduro GP and Enduro 1 ( class not capacity ) . Enduro .ie consider this a mistake likely to further erode the rider numbers . Time will tell but the promoter and the FIM are likely to introduce this change .
As indicated yesterday , centering the event in the town attracted large and enthusiastic crowds at every vantage point , particularly on the long climbs and Enduro test . Sunday will see the location very full …. And we will try join in the crowd – On the hills.
