Pencil October 8th into your filo-fax… The Carrickfergus MCC are crossing over to the darkside and running a two hour cross-country at Thinker Hill, Newry…
CDMCC are excited to announce that for their final date of the year they will be moving into what will be new territory for them by promoting their first cross country event on Saturday 8th October at Tinker Hill, just outside Newry.
Over the past few years Cross Country events have increased in popularity in Northern Ireland with the Mourne, Knock, Foyle and Quad Clubs being the main clubs staging these events, mostly around the winter months as they don’t always need to be held under baking sun, although it is an added bonus! So after discussion about it at the August Club Meeting, Carrick Club have decided to have a go and run one for themselves.
For those who aren’t familiar with cross country, a lap of the course would usually take around 10-15 minutes to complete with the race length varying from 1 ½ hours for Clubmen to around 2 hours for Experts.
The course itself will use parts of the Tinker Hill Motocross Circuit and flow in and out of the surrounding areas, over rough terrain to make up the long lap. Peter Denney, one of the influential club members behind branching off and adding another form of the sport to the club gave his view on the upcoming cross country, “Having competed at these events myself I have found them to be very enjoyable to ride and I am delighted the club have moved in this direction for the final date and try something different to us. Hopefully we will be able to get more people into this form of the sport and have a good days racing all round.”
With at least 1 ½ hours bike time guaranteed for all competitors this is definitely not an event to miss to round of the season. If you haven’t tried it before, look at it as something which will be totally different to the usual motocross/grasstrack events. Great for fitness, great for bike time, great for a enjoyable day out!
Entry forms and regulations are available to download from the club website www.carrickfergusmcc.co.uk, and will also be available in the mx shops with the entry fee priced at just £26.00 per class.
