Garrett Breaks Collarbone In Testing

There was disappointing news for local fans, and for Jonathan Rea’s JAR Honda team when Wayne Garrett announced his withdrawal from Sunday’s race after breaking his collar bone in a testing crash on Tuesday afternoon.

The leader of the Irish Championship had a fine run on Sunday at Kilcurry Dundalk where he took three wins from three starts and looked to have regained the form we are all used to seeing after his horrible leg break at Seaforde last 13th July, and then re breaking the leg in January.

Wayne has made a remarkable return to form, looking as smooth and determined as ever, and was looking forward to putting in a good performance at one of his favourite tracks, in front of a home crowd, but a fall while suspension testing on Tuesday fractured a collar bone, leaving the popular Comber man devastated.

Wayne is currently in the UK seeking laser treatment for his break, but he will definitely be out of Sunday’s racing. He hopes to maintain his challenge for Ulster and Irish honours in July, but that will depend on the healing process.

Wayne is bitterly disappointed at not being able to race on Sunday, but he will be there to meet with fans, and to help his JAR Honda team mates Michael McCammond challenge for honours at his favourite track in the MX2 class.
