“Can Martin win?” is the primary thought that’s on the majority of everybody minds as the fifth round of the Maxxis British Motocross Championship rolls into Desertmartin this weekend.
Regarded as one of Northern Ireland’s top performers, Tyco by TAS Suzuki’s new signing, Martin Barr heads the list of locals hoping to deliver a result on home soil. Marred by a season of frustrating results with his former team LPE Kawasaki, Barr will be keen to turn things around on Sunday.
On a circuit that the Suzuki rider regards as one of his all time favourites, Barr is no stranger to success around the sandy hills of Desertmartin. During the 2011 round of the Red Bull Pro Nationals staged at the former Grand Prix motocross venue, he powered his way to a dominating victory. With an unrivalled elegance, Barr easily mastered the challenging circuit he grew up on.
Now with those fond memories lodged firmly in his mind and armed with the support from his legion of local supporters, Barr will be determined to use the fifth round of the series to leap frog his way up the championship standings from his unfamiliar position of ninth.
