Less than six weeks now remain until the Carrickfergus & District Motorcycle Club invades Desertmartin for their 2012 Two Day Motocross. The event is scheduled to take place on Friday 24th and Saturday 25th August and is sure to be a highlight of the Irish Motocross calendar, having attracted 200+ entries the past two years.
There was some discussion about a different format for this year but a decision was recently made to keep the format the same as 2011. Each competition class will enjoy one 15 minute free practice and one 15 minute qualifying session followed by two races on the Friday. Saturday’s timetable will then consist of a warm up session for each class ahead of their final three races of the two day championship.
Something that is new to the format for 2012 is the introduction of a system to allow a competitor to drop his worst result of the five races before the overall standings are compiled. This leaves room for one poor result for each competitor over five tough races. Trophies and prize money will then be presented to the top six overall in each of the main classes.
The event is open to both solo and quad competitors but spaces are limited in each class. Solo classes include Premier, Semi-Expert and two Clubman classes and while the quad class will be Premier and Clubman competitors combined, they will be scored separately within the race.
Plans are also on going to add a feature race into the timetable tying in with the £5 donation going to the ‘Cash for Kids’ charity from each competitor’s entry fee, more on this will be announced in due course.
Entry forms for the Two Day event that will be run around the Full Circuit at Desertmartin were released on-line last week. The club ran out of entry forms on Saturday at Seaforde so due to the high level of interest, competitors are urged to get their entries in sooner rather than later to avoid disappointment. Forms will be available in the MX Shops later this week while you can download a form from www.carrickfergusmcc.co.uk today.
