Darth Vader – Ian Coates in action – BEC RD 1 2016

Most of the old school Enduro riders maintain that the events over the past few decades have become too easy and many agree with that sentiment. Well Hemsley 16 was not one of those ‘easy’ ones and it was hard, very hard for anyone but the best riders.
Half the entry left and went home on Saturday, half of the vans were stuck, David Knight stopped and left, Tom Sagar a Welshman used to hard forest vented his frustrations at the ACU, there were broken bikes everywhere, broken wills but some happy to have struggled on to finish.
So first well done Ian, no surrender for this expert. Time lost yes but a finish both days.  110% for effort !
Outside that it almost hoes without saying that Steve Holmcolm won both days,  a young guy on the track to a world championship.
Pushed on Saturday by Josh Gotts And on Sunday by Jack Edmondson but never troubled or in top gear. Clear and gone.

It is not the organisers fault when the weather is foul or that the organising body (ACU) put the event in March in Yorkshire when it will always be wet anyway. It is disappointing when more than half the entry could not ride the route or have the will power to go on. There are no winners there save those who pushed to finish.

Ian Coates:

” Huh man what the F**K was that like. ”

The 80’s we say!

Hi, I have read your review of the BEC and I have seen that you’ve added Euan’s words to your website and shared them with your comments. I think that a key part of the debate here is that a large majority of people are being led to believe that there is an argument of the events being to hard by people such as yourself. The original argument is not of this sort and was down to the organisation, profiteering, safety, cheating and conflict of interests based in this event. Part of the complaints were that the extreme test was left out due to riders known by Mr Kerwin asking him to leave it out. The test could still have been left in for experts and championship. The only mention of the events being to hard were for the lower classes, the hobby riders of which there are many which mainly fund these events. Have you seen or read the alternative argument for this event? Please look at the alternative argument and read the comments and look at the names and experience they have. https://www.change.org/p/auto-cycle-union-action-on-bec-rounds-1-2-and-removal-of-future-bec-rounds-from-dirtbike-action
