Jonny B is the man for the razzmatazz, self-appointed to that position and no better bouchal at it. Dragging the podium all the way from Cork and back to Tipperary is some commitment. Well done that man, easy to see how he made such a success of the Paddy Dakar. Top man Jon, you are welcome.
Liam Kelly, Niall S and Crew reopened the south forest loop with Collie and Nick on the northern loop culminating in a 30 and 50 Minute check with an open but technical (read bumpy) enough test to challenge and be enjoyed. Heavy rain all Saturday evening made for some standing water and the odd rutty hill; nothing too demanding if physical in its own way. Once again the seniors had the hardest task running 4 x laps and 5.30 hours … generally it seemed a good event reasonably attended and run eventually in sunshine.
A reroute of the track was necessary following a landowner complaint (over tracks used for the past 25 years) also necessitating scrapping of penalties on check 1 and 2 and test 1 for some. Ride on until you are told otherwise is the golden rule, Stewarts know the score and will follow common sense and the rule book in such circumstances.
Silver medal at the ISDE and a (provisional) win at MT Leinster for Barry Donaghy is a fine months’ work for a rider looking very fast and capable; Josh Caldwell sneaked the Senior from Dave Crean by 4 seconds; Oisin Roe like Barry a class ahead in the Clubman as was Luke Murphy in sportsman.
Thanks to all helpers, sponsors and landowners (!)
